5 Questions

Karma sent me the following questions a couple of weeks back. I finally sat down and decided to answer them. Sorry it took so long Karma!

1. If you could choose your dream job and begin tomorrow, what would that job be and why?

I would have to say the Foreign Service is what attracts me most right now. It seems to fulfill every “want” I have right now in my life. I have a strong desire to go back to my “old” lifestyle and the Foreign Service would definitely provide the expat life I am looking for. In addition, the FS allows you just enough time in one place to become acquainted with yet, but moves you just before becoming bored with it. People often think that I miss traveling, but it is more than that….I don’t really want to be a tourist for a couple of days….I want more than that. Although this type of lifestyle would scare most, for me, it conjures up memories of “home.” See for me, home is not a place, home is the people I grew up with…mainly expats.

The FS also would give me the sense of doing something big. I really want to do something meaningful in my life and career in the FS seems fulfilling. It sounds funny, but in some ways it fulfills that grandeousness I am looking for in a job….in a career. I just think that I will remain incomplete until the day we go overseas again.

2. Have you read "The Secret" yet and if you haven't, have you seen the movie or plan on doing so?

I have indeed read “The Secret” and I found it very very interesting and yet very simple. The big “secret” is really no secret at all….it is just the act of positively thinking and imagining what you want in your life. I have always known this to be true and I truly believe this is why Andrew and I are so fortunate. I believe the rationale behind it all is this: If you believe you can attain something, you will subconsciously surround yourself with people and things to get you to that place. It is simple if you think about it……if you don’t really think and believe you can get to something then you will never really try to get it…thus a negative result. Only by really believing in something, can you actually have it.

3. Do you believe it gets harder to make friends as one gets older?

For me it gets easier and this is why: I got married and had Khazana when I was really young. So it was difficult to make friends. People my age did not have kids, and those who did were much older. Anyhow, with age, I fit in more.

4. What's your take on arranged marriages? Do you think they're happier than those entered into in western cultures?

My take on arranged marriages…hmmm…difficult question. I actually don’t really have an opinion on it. I know for sure it was not for me. I have witnessed a lot of arranged marriages. I think that to go into an arranged marriage, you have to have been brought up to think that is what you were going to do, for it to work. Do I think they are happier than those in western cultures: absolutely not. I think any marriage takes a lot of work and compromise. It also take a lot of growing together and getting to know each other. The interesting thing about marriage is that people continuously change, and so as a couple you have to keep up with that and in many ways, mold and change with it.

I think that any marriage takes adapting, because like I said, the person you married is continuously changing.

Eh…hm…..we are going on 10 years in December!

Ok, you might have noticed the 5th question is missing. Well, I can't think of answer right now. I will post it when I do!

If anyone else wants to play along:

• Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”

• I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

• You will update your weblog with the answers to the questions.

• You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

• When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Thanks for playing along, have fun!

Dirty Dancing

I don't have much time to write...as I am running out the door to go to work. Which, by the way, is going fantastically!

My sister and I went to see Dirty Dancing last night in theaters. Yes, you heard me right, Dirty Dancing! We and countless others were celebrating the 20th anniversary. We were quite interested in knowing what type of crowd would show up to such an event, and to our surprise, the theater was packed and the crowd was most definitely a mixed bag!

My sister Preya wrote a great post about our experience, and believe me it was an experience! I had a wonderful time and I can't wait for the thirtieth anniversary!
